ARTICLE I – NAME

The name of this organization is: THE FELLOWSHIP BAPTIST LIGHTHOUSE CHURCH. Our purpose for existence is exclusively religious, charitable and educational.

ARTICLE II – ARTICLES OF FAITH

A. The Scriptures
We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is a perfect treasure of heavenly instruction: that has God for it’s Author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of error for its matter; that it reveals the principles by which God will judge us; and therefore is, and shall remain, to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be tried.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteous-ness; that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” 2 Tim 3:16,17
“…as many as sinned in the law, shall be judged by the law.” Rom 2:12
“If any man hears my words…the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.” Jn 12:47,48; 8.
Related Scriptures: 2 Pet 1:21; 2 Sam 23:2; Acts 1:16: 3:21; Jn 10:35; Lk 24:29-31; Ps 119:3; Rom 3:12; I Cor 4:3,4; Lk 10:10-16;12:47, 48

B. The True God
We believe the Scriptures teach that there is one, and only one, living and true God, an infinite, intelligent Spirit, whose name is JEHOVAH, the maker and supreme ruler of heaven and earth; inexpressibly glorious in holiness, and worthy of all possible honor, confidence and love; that in the unity of the Godhead there are three Persons—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; equal in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful men. Jn 1:1,2,14; Lk 1:35.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice; and that our justification is made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead. Rom 3:24, 25; 1 Pet 2:24; Eph 1:7; 1 Pet 1:3-5.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to heaven. He is now exalted at the right hand of God, where, as our high priest, He fulfills the ministry of representative, intercessor, and advocate. Acts 1:9, 10; Heb 7:25, 9:24; Rom 8:34; 1 Jn 2:1,2.

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a Person Who convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and of judgment; that He is the supernatural agent in regeneration, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling and sealing them unto the day of redemption. Jn 16:8-11; 2 Cor 3:6; 1 Cor 12:12, 13; Rom 8:9; Eph 1:13,14.

We believe that He is the divine teacher Who guides believers into all truth; that it is the privilege and duty of all the saved to be filled with the Spirit. Jn 16:13; 1 Jn 2:20, 27; Eph 5:18.

C. The Fall of Man
We believe the Scriptures teach that man was created by a direct act of God in holiness, under the law of his Maker, but by voluntary transgression, fell from that holy and happy state; in consequence of which all mankind are now sinners, not by constraint, but by choice; being by nature utterly void of that holiness required by the law of God, positively inclined to evil, and therefore under just condemnation to eternal ruin, without defense or excuse.

“So God created man in his own image.” Gen. 1:27 “And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.” Gen. 1:31; Eccl 7:29; Acts 17:26; Gen 2:16.

“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat; and give also unto her husband with her, and he did eat.” Gen 3:6-24

“By one man’s disobedience many were made sinners.”  Rom 5:19
“We have turned everyone to his own way.” Isa 53:6

“Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.” Eph 2:3;.

“The soul that sinneth it shall die.” Ezek. 18: 19, 20. “So that they are without excuse.” Rom 1:20 “That every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.” Rom 3:19;.

D. God’s Purpose of Grace
We believe the Scriptures teach that election is the eternal purpose of God, according to which He graciously regenerates, sanctifies, and saves sinners; that being perfectly consistent with the free agency of man, it comprehends all the means in connection with the end; that it is a most glorious display of God’s sovereign goodness, being infinitely free, wise, holy and unchangeable; that it is utterly excludes boasting and promotes humility, love, prayer, praise, trust in God, and active imitation of His free mercy; that it encourages the use of means in the highest degree; that it may believe the gospel; that it is the foundation of Christian assurance; that to ascertain it with regard to ourselves demands and deserves the utmost diligence.

“…but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel, according to the power of God; who hath saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.” 2Tim 1:8, 9.
“But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you for salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 2 Thess. 2:13, 14
“Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sake, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.” 2 Tim 2:10
“Knowing, whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he called, then he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.” Rom. 8:30
Related Scriptures: I Cor 9:22; Rom 8:28-30; Jn 6:37-40; 2 Pet 1:10; Isa. 42:16; Rom 11:29.

E. The Way of Salvation
We believe the Scriptures teach that salvation of sinners is wholly of grace through the mediatory offices of the Son of God, Who, according to the will of the Father, took on human flesh, yet without sin; honored the divine law of His personal obedience, and by His death made a full atonement for our sins; that having risen from the dead, He is now enthroned in heaven; and uniting in His wonderful Person the tenderest sympathies with divine perfections, He is every way qualified to be a suitable, a compassionate and an all-sufficient Saviour.

We believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly of grace and is neither merited nor secured by any virtue or work of man. All who repent and receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become the children of God, eternally secure and kept forever by the power of God

“…by grace ye are saved.” Eph 2:5;
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Jn 3:16;
“Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men” Phil 2:6,7;
“But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5
“Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that comes unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.” Heb 7:25
“For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.” Col 2:9
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” 1 Peter 1:3-5
Related Scriptures: Mt 18:11; I Jn 4:10; I Cor. 3:5-7; Acts 15:11; Jn 1:14; Heb. 4:14, 12:24; Heb. 2: 9,14; 2 Cor. 5:21; Heb. 2:18, 7:26

F. Of Regeneration
We believe that the Scriptures teach that regeneration, or the new birth, is that change wrought in the soul by the Holy Spirit, by which a new nature and a spiritual life, not before possessed, are imparted, and the person becomes a new creation in Christ Jesus; a holy disposition is given to the mind, the will subdued, the dominion of sin broken, and the affections changed from a love of sin and self to a love of holiness and God; the evidence of it is found in a changed disposition of mind, the fruits of righteousness, and a newness of life. Without it, salvation is impossible.

“Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Jn 3:3
“That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” Jn 3:6
“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God…” 1 Pet.1:23

“Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.” Col 1:13
“Which was born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor the will of man, but by God?” Jn 1:13
“And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and by the Spirit of our God.” I Cor 6:11
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” Gal 5:1

G. Of Repentance
We believe that the Scriptures teach that repentance is a personal act which the Father, for the sake of Christ, accepts believers to the estate and condition of children by a new and scriptural birth; sending the spirit of adoption into their hearts whereby they become members of the family of God and entitled to all the rights, privileges and promises of children; and if children, then heirs, heirs of God, and joint heirs with Jesus Christ, to the heritage of the saints on earth, and the in¬heritance reserved in heaven for them.

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Rom 8:14
“…but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” Rom 8:15
“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.” Rom 8:16

“Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ…” Eph 1:5
“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God…” I Jn 3: 1

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priest¬hood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light…” 1. Pet 2:9

H. Sanctification
We believe the Scriptures teach that sanctifi¬cation is the process by which, according to the will of God, we are made partakers of His holiness; that it is carried on in the hearts of believers by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, the sealer and comforter, in the continual use of the appointed means – especially the Word of God, self-examination, self-denial, watchfulness and prayer, and in the practice of all godly exercises and duties.

“For this is the will of God, even your sanctification…” 1 Thess 4:3
“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly…” I Thess 5:23
“But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” Prov 4:18
“…work out your own salvation with fear and trembling: For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” Phil 2:12,13;

I. Preservation of Saints
We believe that the Scriptures teach such as are truly regenerate, being born of the Spirit, will not utterly fall away and finally perish, but will endure unto the end; that their persevering attachment to Christ is the grand mark which distinguishes them from the superficial professors; that a special Providence watches over their welfare; and they are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation.

“And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.” Jn 6:39
“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, if ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed.” Jn 8:31;
“They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.” 1 Jn 2:19
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Rom. 8:28;
“…He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Phil. 1:6;

J. The Law and the Gospel
We believe the Scriptures teach that the law of God is the eternal and unchangeable rule of His moral government; that it is holy, just, and good; and that the inability which the Scriptures ascribe to fallen men to fulfill its precepts arises entirely from their sinful nature; to deliver them from which, and to restore them through a mediator to unfeigned obedience to the holy law, is one great end of the gospel, and the means of grace connected with the establishment of the visible church.

“Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.” Rom. 3:31;
“Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.” Rom 7:12, 14, 22;
Related scriptures: Mt 5:17; Lk 16:17; Rom 3:20, 4:15

K. A Gospel Church
We believe the Scriptures teach that a visible church of Christ is a congregation of baptized blievers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel; observing the ordinances of Christ governed by His laws; and exercising the gifts, rights and privileges invested in them by His Word; that its only scriptural officers are bishops or pastors, and deacons, whose qualifications, claims and duties are defined in the epistles to Timothy and Titus.

“Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.” Acts 2:41
“…but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.” 2 Cor 8:5
“Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.” 1 Cor 11:2
“Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.” Mt 28:20;
“…with the bishops and deacons.” Phil 1:1

L Christian Baptism
We believe the Scriptures teach that Christian baptism is the immersion in water of a believer in Christ, into the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost; to show forth, in a solemn and beautiful emblem, our faith in the crucified, buried, and risen Saviour, with its effects, in our death to sin and resurrection to a new life; that it is prerequisite to the privilege of a church relation.

“And the eunuch said, See, here is water what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, if thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest… And they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.” Acts 8:36-39
“Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” Mt 28:19
“Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” Rom 6:4
“Then they that gladly received his word were baptized; and the same day there was added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” Acts 2:41, 42
Mt 28:19; Mk 16:16; Acts 2:38, 8:12, 10:47,48; 16:32-34;18:8; 22:16; Acts 10:47,48; Gal 3:27,28; Col 2:12; I Pet 3:20, 21; Acts 22:16; Mt 28:20

M. The Lord’s Supper
We believe the Scriptures teach that the Lord’s Supper is a provision of bread and wine (juice), as symbols of Christ’s body and blood, partaken of by born-again believers of the church, in commemoration of the suffering and death of their Lord; showing their faith and participation in the merits of His sacrifice and their hope of eternal life through His resurrection from the dead; its observance to be preceded by faithful self-examination.

“And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.” Lk 22:19,20
“For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.” I Cor 11:26;
“But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.” 1 Cor 11:28
“And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” Acts 2:42.

N. The Lord’s Day
We believe the Scriptures teach that the first day of the week is sacred to religious purposes, by abstaining from all secular labor, except works of mercy and necessity, by the devout private and public; and by preparation for that rest that re¬maineth for the people of God.

“And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them…” Acts 20:7
“I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day.” Rev 1:10
“Not forsaking the assembling of yourselves together, as the manner of some is…” Heb 10:25
“Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest…” Heb 4:11
Related Scriptures: Col 2:16,17; Mk 2:27; Jn 20:19; I Cor 16:1,2; Ps 118:24

O. Civil Government
We believe the Scriptures teach that civil government is of divine appointment, for the interest and good order of human society; and that magistrates are to be prayed for, conscientiously honored and obeyed, except only in things opposed to the will of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the only Lord of the conscience, and the Prince of the kings of the earth. Civil rulers have no rights of control over, or of interference with, religious matters.

“The powers that be are ordained of God. For rulers is not a terror to good works, but to the evil.” Rom.13:1,3;
“Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake.” I Pet 2:13
“Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.” Mt 22:21;
“We ought to obey God rather than men.” Acts 5:29
“And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul…” Mt 10:28
“…for one is your Master, even Christ.” Mt 23:10
“Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant?” Rom 14:4
“And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND THE LORD OF LORDS.” Rev 19:16.

P. The Righteous and Wicked
We believe the Scriptures teach that there is a radical and essential difference between the righteous and the wicked; that such, only through faith, are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and sanctified by the Spirit of our God, are truly righteous in His esteem; while all such as continue in impenitence and unbelief are, in His sight, wicked and under the curse; and this distinction holds among men both in this life and after death.

“…and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.” Mal 3:18
“The just shall live by faith.” Rom 1:17
“If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.”1 Jn 2:29
And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.” I Jn 5:19.
“For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse.” Gal 3:10;
“The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.” Prov 14:32
“Remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.” Lk 16:25;

We believe that Satan is a person, the author of sin and the fall; that he is the openly declared enemy of God and man, and he shall be eternally punished in the lake of fire.

Q. The World to Come
We believe that blessed hope: the personal, imminent, pre-tribulation and pre-millennial coming of the Lord Jesus Christ for His redeemed ones; and in His subsequent return to earth with His saints to establish His millennial kingdom.
I Thess 4:13-18; Zech 14:4-11; Rev 3:10
We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment. Mt 25:46; Jn 5:28,29, 11:25,26; Rev 20:5,6,12,13
We believe that the souls of the redeemed are, at death, absent from the body and present with the Lord, where in conscious bliss they await the first resurrection, when spirit, soul and body are re united to be glorified forever with the Lord.
Lk 23:43; Rev 20:4-6; 2 Cor 5:8; Phil 1:23, 3:21; 1 Thess 4:16,17
We believe that the souls of unbelievers remain after death in conscious misery until the second resurrection, when, with soul and body re united, they shall appear at the Great White Throne judgment, and shall be cast into the lake of tire, not to be annihilated, but to suffer everlasting conscious punishment.
Lk 16:19-26;Mt.25:41-46; 2 Thess 1:7-9; Jude 6,7; Mk 9:43-48; Rev. 20:11-15

R. Doctrine of Separation
As we grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord, we believe God will reveal unto us that the Word of God clearly teaches that the believer should walk in the path of separation from carnal, worldly, pleasurable and questionable practices which are harmful in their influence and a stumbling block to others.
1 Jn.2:15-17; 2 Cor 6:14-17 Christ’s Example – Heb.7:25-26; Command to believers – Eph 5:1;1 Pet 1:15-16

S. Sexuality
The Scripture declares that a sexual relationship or marriage between two individuals of the same sex, as determined by birth, conflicts with God’s design and plan for man (Gen.2:23,24; Mt. 9:4,5; Rom 7:1-4; Lev 18:12-18,23). Therefore, anyone who practices this sexual immorality violates God’s Word. No marriage license or government approval of the homosexual orientation can validate that orientation or lifestyle, for God’s prohibition cannot be satisfied, or amended, by human authorities.

In a biblical view, God defines one’s gender at conception, prior to birth. One is either a male or a female. Sexuality, however, while a gift of God, is often perverted to sinful ends by both men and women. Sexual expression is a moral choice. According to the Bible, God defines all forms of sexual immorality as sin, and condemns any and all alternatives to monogamous, heterosexual marriage (Gen.2:23,24; I Cor.5:9-13; I Thess 4:3).

While others adopt permanent labels, we try to avoid labeling individuals based upon some spiritual struggle in their lives. In other words, we think of a person struggling with narcotics not just a drug addict, nor a person struggling with temptations to steal just a thief. We do this because we do not recognize any of these labeling designations as indicative of some kind of “unalterable state or condition” (1 Cor 6:9-11). On the contrary, the Scripture reveals that, when someone is saved, they are transformed, they are no longer identified by their old sinful lifestyles.

We are all sinners but, praise God, this condition is not unalterable if we have accepted Christ as our Savior. Then we are “sinners saved by grace”. However, sometimes the sin is more evident than the grace in our lives. People’s expression of human sexuality is influenced by this “sin and grace” struggle in the form of sexual temptations. The temptation, in itself, is not a sin. Dwelling on that temptation and yielding becomes sin. People struggle with sexual integrity. Sometimes they yield to immoral behavior, whether heterosexual or homosexual. This act of sin does not make people unforgivable, nor does it mean that, by the grace of God, they cannot change. A struggle with sexual temptation, even an act of sexual immorality, does not turn a person into a labeled category. It simply means there is sin in that person’s life and Christ is the answer to that sin.

However, if an individual practices sexual immorality, they are violating God’s will and are liable to church discipline. The object of church discipline is repentance and reconciliation. If there is repentance, the process of restoration will be under the supervision and discretion of pastoral leadership. However, if someone does not repent and submit to an accountable process of restoration, they shall be excluded from fellowship and service (I Cor 5).

COVENANT

Having been, as we trust, brought by divine grace to embrace the Lord Jesus Christ, and to give ourselves wholly to Him, we do now solemnly and joyfully covenant with each other to WALK TOGETHER IN HIM, WITH BROTHERLY LOVE, TO HIS GLORY, as our common Lord.

We do, therefore, in His strength, engage-
• that we will exercise a Christian care and watchfulness over each other, and faithfully warn, exhort, and admonish each other as occasion may require:
• that we will not forsake the assembling of our selves together, but will uphold the public worship of God, and the ordinances of His house:
• that we will not omit closet and family prayer at home, nor neglect the great duty of religiously training our children, and those under our care, for the service of Christ, and the enjoyment under heaven:
• that, as we are the light of the world and the salt of the earth, we will seek divine aid to enable us to deny ungodliness and every worldly lust, and to walk circumspectly in the world, that we may win souls to the Savior:
• that we will cheerfully contribute of our property, according as God has prospered us, for the maintenance of a faithful and evangelical ministry among us, for the support of the poor, and to spread the Gospel over the earth:
• that we will, in all conditions—even till death- strive to live in the glory of Him Who hath called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.

“NOW THE GOD OF PEACE, THAT BROUGHT AGAIN FROM THE DEAD OUR LORD JESUS, THAT GREAT SHEPHERD OF THE SHEEP, THROUGH THE BLOOD OF THE EVERLASTING COVENANT, MAKE YOU PERFECT IN EVERY GOOD WORK TO DO HIS WILL, WORKING IN YOU THAT WHICH IS WELL-PLEASING IN HIS SIGHT, THROUGH JESUS CHRIST: TO WHOM BE GLORY FOREVER AND EVER.
